We’re Vanessa & Kris — two military wives, believers, and birth doulas with a shared passion for supporting families through one of life’s most transformative experiences. As Beginnings Birth Center approved doulas who accept TRICARE, we’re especially passionate about serving our fellow military families since we know first hand the sacrifices and challenges military life presents.
Our doula duo model gives you the best of both worlds: you’ll know and connect with both of us during pregnancy, while one doula will be on call for your birth. If your need for labor support extends beyond 12 hours, the other doula may join for a fresh set of hands, renewed energy, and a different perspective—giving you continuous, compassionate support when you need it most.

Vanessa Stepan

Hi, I’m Vanessa, a certified birth doula. First and foremost, I’m a mom, wife, and believer. After 20 years of Air Force service, my husband is now retired, and we’re raising our three kids—Bradley, Arlyn, and Adler— here in beautiful Colorado Springs. When I’m not at a birth, you’ll find me skiing with my family, editing photos at a coffee shop, listening to Morgan Wallen, watching a good documentary, or most often, carting kids to gymnastics and baseball.
My passion for birth began after the birth of my first child in 2014 and grew through three more unmedicated births, including a home birth and gestational carrier journey. Those experiences shaped my desire to help families feel informed, confident, and supported as they prepare for birth.
I love combining education, hands-on support, and photography to serve families through pregnancy, birth, and beyond. I have a heart for supporting military families because I know first hand the unique challenges that come with military life. I proudly accept TRICARE insurance to better serve fellow military families in our community.
Kris Call

Hi! My name is Kris (Kristina Call CD(DONA), CVD
(TVL) ) I have the joy of being the mother to four
beautiful children ages 15, 14, 12, and 10. I am a
proud military wife and am honored to stand by
my husband as he serves our country. I am a
disciple of Christ and am happy to answer the call
to serve families as a doula. I was blessed to have
an amazing doula with my first two births. She
helped open my eyes to the beauty of birth and
the power and strength found in each woman. I
am honored to now support other women in their
own pregnancy and birth journeys. I am a
certified Birth Doula through DONA International
and VBAC certified through The VBAC Link and
am a Beginnings Birth Center Aproved Doula.
HOW WE BECAME DOULA PARTNERS
It all started at gymnastics. Our daughters, Arlyn and Joss, are on the same team, and somewhere between practices, meets, and busy mom life, we discovered a shared love for birth and a heart for supporting families. As Vanessa began pursuing doula work full-time, Kris started her own journey toward becoming a doula.
What began as conversations about birth quickly grew into a genuine friendship, and before long, Kris was shadowing Vanessa at births and learning alongside her. After the first birth we attended together, we both knew there was something special about the way we worked together. We shared a similar approach to birth, a deep desire to serve families well, and especially a heart for military families.
What started with our daughters on the same gymnastics team has grown into a friendship and partnership we’re incredibly grateful for. We feel honored to now have the opportunity to walk alongside families together—bringing two sets of hands, two perspectives, and one shared heart for serving.
