Sometimes the most meaningful partnerships begin in the most ordinary places. For us, it started at gymnastics. Our daughters, Arlyn and Joss, have been on the same gymnastics team, which meant lots of practices, meets, long gym days, and the familiar rhythm of busy mom life. Somewhere between gymnastics drop-offs and conversations on the sidelines, we discovered that we shared something much bigger than our daughters’ love of the sport: a deep love for birth and a passion for serving families.
Two Moms, One Shared Passion
We’re Vanessa & Kris—two military wives, believers, moms, and birth doulas who both feel incredibly honored to walk alongside families during one of life’s most transformative experiences.
Our paths into birth work looked a little different.
Vanessa’s passion for birth began after the birth of her first child in 2014 and grew through her own experiences with three more unmedicated births, including a home birth and a gestational carrier journey. Those experiences led her to become a childbirth educator, birth doula, and birth photographer, with a particular heart for supporting military families.
Kris experienced the power of doula support firsthand during her first two births. Those experiences opened her eyes to the beauty of birth and the strength of women, eventually leading her to become a certified birth doula and childbirth educator. She is also VBAC certified through The VBAC Link and a Beginnings Birth Center-approved doula.
As we got to know each other, our conversations naturally started turning toward birth.
Then Kris began shadowing Vanessa at births.
When We Knew We Worked Well Together
There’s a difference between simply working alongside someone and truly working well together. After attending our first birth together, we both noticed how naturally our strengths complemented each other. We shared a similar approach to birth, a commitment to education and informed decision-making, and a desire to provide calm, compassionate support without taking away from the parents’ experience.
We also discovered something really special: we genuinely enjoyed serving together. What started with our daughters on the same gymnastics team had grown into a friendship, mentorship, and shared vision. And we began wondering—what if we could build something together?
Why a Doula Duo?
Birth can be unpredictable. Labor may be short, or it may stretch into many hours. Having two doulas allows us to provide a different kind of continuity. Our clients get to know both of us throughout pregnancy, rather than meeting a backup doula for the first time when labor begins. One of us will be on call for your birth, and if labor extends beyond 12 hours or additional support would be beneficial, the other may join. That means fresh hands, renewed energy, and continuous support—while still having someone you already know and trust. And there’s something meaningful about knowing that the person supporting you is also a mom who understands the beautiful—and sometimes chaotic—reality of family life.
A Special Heart for Military Families
As military wives, this part of our work is especially personal. We know what it's like to build community in a new place, navigate deployments and busy schedules, lean on friends who become family, and sometimes prepare for major life moments without the support system you wish you had nearby. That experience is part of why we're so passionate about serving military families in Colorado Springs.
We’re proud to accept TRICARE and to provide birth support that is compassionate, educational, and rooted in the belief that every family deserves to feel supported and confident as they prepare for their birth.
And It All Comes Back to Our Kids
When we look at how this partnership began, we can’t help but smile. Our daughters were simply doing gymnastics. We were simply two moms sitting around a gym. We had no idea that those ordinary moments would eventually lead to a friendship and a partnership that would allow us to serve families together.
Our kids brought us into the same space. Birth gave us a shared passion. And our friendship grew into something we’re incredibly grateful for. Today, we get to bring two sets of hands, two perspectives, and one shared heart for serving to the families who invite us into such an important part of their story. And honestly, we wouldn’t have it any other way. 🤍
We’re so excited for this next chapter and honored to walk alongside you—together.
